Cartref Homes Sheltered Employment

It was especially pleasing today to review the progress made over the last year with our in-house sheltered employment scheme.

In addition to a number of new service users now participating in therapeutic work it is exciting to see all those involved benefitting from the experience of having proper interviews, contracts of employment (with arrangements for holidays), and receiving supervisions and appraisal of performance.  These are all features that will serve them well when they seek job opportunities in the community.

In addition, Judy – our Scheme Co-ordinator – has also developed a couple of initiatives to build ‘team spirit’ amongst the group.  There was a Christmas meal which was well attended and a staff meeting is planned shortly.  We hope these and other ideas will further help to foster the social networking that many people enjoy as a spin-off from their employment.

Last of all – a date for the diary.  Judy is planning to hold an open day to broadcast the scheme’s achievements so far and to encourage still more service users to get involved.  We’ll advertise the date once we know.
