An introduction

Bridge House was opened in 2002 as a response to our service users’ need for a ‘stepping stone’ between our residential provision and their ultimate desire to live independently in their own accommodation.

This 5-bedded home caters for service users aged between 18 and 40 with learning disabilities (who may also present with challenging behaviours, mental health difficulties and other special needs). Whilst clear expertise has been developed in addressing the particular issues facing service users moving on, the home and its team are also able to meet the needs of those requiring on-going support in a residential setting.

Service Aims

To assist service users in acquiring skills which empower and enable them in the pursuit of more independent and valued life-styles.

To create opportunities for community integration by developing links with local education providers, employers and other support services.

To enable service users to assume increasing autonomy and authority in all aspects of their lives.

To provide service users with the dignity of risk-taking within a measured, yet sensitive framework of support.

To promote equality of opportunity and encourage anti- discriminatory practice by recognising, rights, choices, beliefs and values of service users and their families.

Facilities

Man using computerBridge House is situated in a village environment on the outskirts of the busy market town of Sittingbourne.

Sited amongst the rural pleasures of Kent, Bridge House is nonetheless only a little over an hour away from the attractions of London and the sandy beaches of the North Kent Coast.

Bridge House has been furnished and equipped to a high standard, creating quality accommodation with single rooms for up to 5 service users.

This spacious home benefits from 3 reception rooms including a study with internet access and a separate games room.

Staff

The staff team, led by registered manager Stuart Byrne, is carefully selected and specifically coached to provide support that maximises the service user’s potential to live more independently. The team has had notable success in moving service users on to accommodation of their own as well as providing the robust support needed by service users stepping down from more restrictive residential environments. The work of the team has been aided by the positive links established with a wide range of professionals (Health and Social Services) and other support agencies - including our sub-contracted clinical psychology provision.
